sweet water.

Last weekend we went beach camping at Half Moon Bay. Needless to say, it was a stellar time. It all started with the tiniest dirt road onto the 'Sweet Water' camp site, which dumped you out onto the water's edge surrounded by the most inspiring trees you can imagine. The dogs came, and were the entertainment. Everyone ate Hippo up, and snuggled with Bird. The guys thought that using Hippo to 'tow-in' on the sidewalk with a longboard was the best idea ever. Hippo also thought it was the best idea ever. He loves skateboards.

After camping, we followed it up by traveling south with our new friends the Allens (Mike, Amy, & Audrey). They are keepers, we can tell already. They've really been hooking us up on the cool front as of late, and there will be more adventures with them in the near future. It helps that their 6 month old girl is one of the most amazing babies I've ever met (Beckett, you have her trumped, don't you fret).

They took us on a mini-road trip south on the CA-1. To paint a simple picture for you, imagine a cliff side drive surrounded by gorgeous and aromatic farmlands, and an ocean view that stops the heart. Our first stop was the Pescadero Country Store to buy some local artichoke garlic bread. Locally grown garlic & artichokes= garlic bread with artichoke hearts IN IT... holy. cow. was that delicious. If you ever get the chance to taste it yourself, be sure to enjoy it outside on a bench, with a hippie banjo musician playing in a local park behind you. You'll definitely savor the moment that much more, haha. Anyway, as we continued our drive down the 1, Mike took us to a little secret spot. We climbed down a small trail on the coast that took us to an absolutely stunning cove. Said cove was adorned with a legitimate hollowed out tunnel from the ocean's tides, and massive free standing rocks (the size of small mountains). Breathtaking. Drive a little further south, and you'll find a whole lot of kite boarders enjoying the swell & wind. It was a crazy show to say the least. We then topped it all off by stopping off at a "jam tasting" farm & store. This business was run with an "honesty till" which I thought was the coolest thing for a California beach farm. I would have high fived the owners right there, but you know... they weren't around. Old school at it's finest. We enjoyed some savory soup and a game of 1960's pick up sticks and then made our way back home.

The day was one that if a film crew had followed us around, and added some low key awesome music to the shots... they could have turned around and sold it to some company for a million dollars to make a commercial. If you saw this commercial, I guarantee you would feel the need to switch to their bank, insurance, or open their travel points credit card in a heartbeat.

It was that epic.
And it was all done in sweat pants. Every one of us. Again, epic.
Chuck Norris even joined us on Andrew's shirt.

Oh man do I love where we live.

almost.

Contrary to previous anniversary, birthday, and Christmas surprises... boyfriend really pulled through this time for our 4 year wedding anniversary. The surprise? My dream. Absolute dream... to ride in a hot air balloon. Over the beautiful rolling -vineyard covered- hills of Napa no less. The catch? The wind. The dream come true was cancelled.

But we got THIS close. Literally. In the gondola and everything. At 7am.
So what did we do? Go to Six Flags instead of course.

Andrew felt the need to help. Or whatever.

Such a breathtaking drive.

Oh yeah, in classic Andrew fashion, when a pre-show host asks for everyone to "make some noise" he went above and beyond. No one went beyond hooting and waving. But Andrew... he of course decided to act like whatever the present may be, it was worth a million dollars. So naturally we were selected to enjoy the show from Hawaiian Airline's special leather sofa.
Woo.

And after a soaking log ride, beautiful big cats, fair swings, bat rays, roller coasters, & a funnel cake later... we lived happily ever after.

Reach & Unite.

My very talented and very inspiring cousin Melanie Burk, of 5th and Hazel is involved in a very cool non profit fundraiser. Reach and Unite is in support of International Women's Day on Saturday March 12th. This service project involves assembling female hygiene kits for the many girls in Africa who drop out of school or suffer urinary tract infections due to lack of hygiene supplies and proper education. The event will include a lecture, lunch, African dancers, music, and art show.

If you would like to attend and live in Utah, simply go to UVU's Activity Center in the Pe Building March 12th. The event will go from 10am to 4pm. You can visit the site here for more information.

Here's to helping those wonderful women who need it!

They're WAY awesome.
If ever you move and/or need to get rid of random stuff, put it on your lawn, and people will BUY IT!
It's amazing.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. (:

Surprise!

So last night my friend Lauren and I threw a joint surprise birthday party for our husbands in the basement of their house. It was a hootin time full of the boys' friends. Since Andrew spends most of his days with all the fellow animators, I got a hold of them, and FAHLAH! ..party. All you out of staters, wish you could have come, we had a blast!

Party was complete with legit invitations, Costco food awesomeness, Guatemalan reggaeton, crazy fiesta Christmas lights, Billabong surf flick, dart board, and more!

Above: Andrew's star shot, Cal's cute baby picture, & a Dwight K. Schrute B-day sign.
Below: Boyfriend looked cute.

Above: Cal the other birthday boy and Lauren friend!
Below: Andrew with his favorite celebrity. Check him out here, you'll die.

Above: Party crowd.
Below: Birthday boys get sung to and whatnot.

Above: Typical moves, Andrew goes in during photo time, and I stick to the task, haha.
Love it.
Rockin party.

Thanks to everyone for coming, Andrew was DEFINITELY surprised!
Now I can stop lying to my boyfriend. (:

BYU vs. UTAH

{via Flickr}

I have to work, but afterword we will be watching this game tonight. GO COUGARS!

O Rise and Shout, the Cougars are out
Along the trail to fame and glory.
Rise and shout, our cheers will ring out,
As you unfold your vict'ry story.
On you go to vanquish the foe
For Alma Mater's sons and daughters.
As we join in song, in praise of you, our faith is strong.
We'll raise our colors high in the blue,
And cheer the Cougars of BYU.

I've bled blue (..and known the fight song, whether I've wanted to or not) since I was 2. More or less since I was born actually. Anyway, now I actually care and wish them luck!

PS. Happy Weekend!!

Hawaiian Friends..

Yes, my island dwellers.. my sister Abby will be out there for the next ten days if your interested in watching a good game of soccer! She's notorious for not disappointing on the entertainment factor! Anyway, if you can make it to any of the games.. I'm sure she'd enjoy having a fan section (REALLY! ..even if she doesn't know you!). Below I have listed the games that will be played while they're out there, and sorry I don't have all of the game times. If you want to make it to the BYUH game, I'm sure you can find out what time it will be on campus! Anyway.. be sure to tell her I said hi if you make it out to any. (:

(Abby's a goal keeper, No. 21)

Comic Con

Andrew's getting the royal treatment.
He was there yesterday, and is there today.. and will most likely go tomorrow.

So far he's seen & heard from Megan Fox (being foxy as usual, I'm sure), Robert Downey Jr., Densel Washington, Cameron Diaz, and Rachael McAdams.
..not to mention, Peter Jackson & Tim Burton!

Oh man.. I'm jealous, but I'm glad he's having such a killer awesome time!
I'm sure I'll update if anything crazy happens. (:

Body Worlds & the Brain: Our 3 Pound Gem

For those of you who HAVE been to one of the touring Body Worlds exhibits, you know what I mean when I say it is absolutely REMARKABLE.  My in laws took us to the museum and we were in awe of what we can now view through the progression of science.  I was skeptical at first, not knowing how I would feel about seeing the insides of a human being (I've always been very squeamish), but I was VERY fascinated! As a massage therapist, it was actually EXTREMELY helpful to get a refreshers course of what I have been working on all this time. (: My favorite part of the exhibit was the 'prenatal' section (I was worried this would make me cry, but it actually made me very happy and overjoyed), but of course the fully posed musculature's were spectacular as well.  I highly recommend visiting if you have not been able to do so yet! The North American exhibit is currently in San Diego, but I'm sure it'll come to you soon enough.  Get your tickets! (:

Ping-Pong Dining Table

True story!

I'm a fan!
Andrew's really good.. we should invest. (:
..Besides, it's definitely classy as a dining room table.
I'm all for multi-purposing.

Things..

Things you most likely NEVER knew about yours truly, that is.
What brought this post on was my lengthy sifting through all of my digital photos that I have on this laptop of mine, and I fell upon QUITE a few good memories and have decided to share a few totally random ones with you..

FACT:

I am of Native American decent..

I went to prom my senior year in THIS!.. :)
I've gone to lunch at In-N-Out with Will Smith & some friends..
I've won an Oscar ...of sorts.
I've been to a Monster Truck Rally.
I used to have a hammock above my bed.
I've flown in a helicopter ..out of my roomie's GARAGE none the less!
I've hand fed sing rays some gooey squid..

I've been to the CITY OF ATLANTIS ..twice. :)
(and I aint tellin ya where it is...)
I've been on a cruise with THESE fine citizens.
Well, there you have it. Some of the Adventures of Arica Malace (pronounced muh-lace).
Cheers!

UVA & UVB

Can I even tell you how much my skin misses those rays!? Oh man, I have not been this white since.. since, EVER! You know it's bad when you go home for Christmas and your whole family (including your DAD) is like.. "whoa, Arica. I've never seen you this pale!" I KNOW! And yes, there are those of you who are like, 'whaaa.. I would KILL to be as dark as your palest day.' But to each his own. I am used to having an engraved swimsuit on under all of my clothes. And now it's almost completely gone.. which is very surreal. So what is the antidote? Well, I think I'm going to break this wicked spell, and commit the unforgivable. Yes, go to a tanning salon. Yeah, yeah.. embarrassing I know, but I'm not ashamed! I NEED IT. And OF course I'm not talking like I'm going to make a regular appearance, just a random visit when it suits me. Like once in a blue moon type of thing. The sun feels SOO goooood, and I crave the goodness! So if you catch me with a little more bounce in my step, you might just know why. I need that feel good, and it's about time to obtain it.
Cheers to the warmth. :)

Donkey Kong 64

I miss this game SO much! I would LOVE to be able to play it again someday! ..although, it would be sad because I already can assure you that I don't remember any of the tricks and secrets that I once knew better than anybody. My sisters, my best friend, and I were ADDICTED! Haha.. Ash, hook it up so that we can play over Christmas break. I've got Andrew all curious about it. :) Anyway, here's the 'monkey rap' that was in the intro. Sadly enough, I DO happen to have this memorized still. Haha, enjoy!

P.S. Lanky & Diddy were always my favorite to use. :)

Lagoon

We had a blast, but what was probably best of all, is witnessed here on this short film shot from Drew's phone (thanks for capturing the moment for us Shelley!). It take's a couple seconds to get to the point, and doesn't do it full justice..
..let's just say, I've done a LOT of rides and free falls, but this tops them ALL!

I bring to you, Drew & I.. on the Sky Cruiser.

We had such a BLAST! When we got to the top I was up there thinking, 'oh crap! what did I get myself into!.. 3-2-1, and pull.. AHHHH!'

So rad, and worth the extra pay. A memory to last a lifetime for sure!

Swings

Oh how I LOVE swings at theme parks!
Always & forever!

California Adventure & Lagoon
Haha, and I ALWAYS seem to manage the most amazing expression of haggard joy.
