Seriously, I said this multiple times on the trip, Palm Springs was what the doctor ordered! ...if I had a doctor, I'm sure he would have. So many memories in just 3 days. Dinners, shops we couldn't afford, so much pool time, top down on the convertible, the inability to find a normal gas station on an iphone, sunburns, having a band sing me 'happy birthday' at a patio restaurant, pinterest, nightly hot tubbing, the ace & parker hotels (designer STEROIDS)... man, what a way to celebrate a 24th birthday! These girls are some of my favorite people, we had a BLAST.

I love Palm Springs.

This post is for YOU, my fellow.. Utah designers (graphic, interior, fashion), artists (film, technical, traditional, etc), bloggers (lifestyle, design, artistic), photographers, & so on! Basically any of you creative minds...

After a lot of arranging, Melanie of Fifth & Hazel has created a community called Creative Collaborative. A community geared toward collaborating and feeding off of each other's creative juices. Helping each other rather than competing with one another. 2 heads are better than 1, right? Because lets face it, we could all use some input and good ideas! The first meeting is TOMORROW, May 5th at 7pm. We will be hearing from Kirsten Krason, Dave Broberg, and Diana Palmer.

Fallingwater

So I've been having to pull up a TON of photos of architecture lately for a final project, and in so doing, who has better images than the notorious Frank Lloyd Wright. Who is this, you ask? None other than one of the most famous, phe-NOM-inal architects and designers of all time. A lot of people didn't like him, or didn't like working with him rather, because he was rumored to be a feisty one. But that's probably half the reason why I like him, the guy was a spitfire. I dig that. I also dig the fact that he made some CRAZY beautiful homes. He believed that no house should ever be 'on' a hill, they should be 'of' the hill. If you were to google his work, you would see that belief in a very literal sense. Do it, google Hollyhock House, Ennis Brown House, Robie House, Taliesin East, and just FLW in general. You'll probably be amazed.

Anyway, probably his most famous residential piece of all is nestled in the mountains of Pennsylvania, and originally was built for the Kaufmann family. It is called Fallingwater, and you will see why. You might possibly have even seen a picture of this place and not even realized what it was, just simply admired its beauty and the fact that it appears to defy so many 'rules' when it comes to 'building'.

Alice Lane

So if you're a Provo/Orem/Utah County resident, and like all things AMAZING for your home, and haven't been to Alice Lane before.. MAN OH MAN are you missing out! It is such an inspiring store full of GREAT design, that I can hardly stand it. I about explode walking in there. I wish I lived in all the little nooks and crannys of that place. Anyway, check it if you haven't, and if you have.. you know what I'm talkin' about! PS. They have this drop dead GORGEOUS bed frame that I've been drooling over and have been having dreams about (true story, owned it in my sleep). Haha. Maybe Andrew will give me the go for my birthday. (;

"the Barcelona"

Have you ever seen one of these before in a magazine, or possibly real life?
Well... I'll have you know this chair & ottoman combination is QUITE famous.

The designer was Ludwig Mies van de Rohe, most commonly referred to as "Mies."
He was a part of the modern movement that happened in the early 20th century, and this chair has lived with us ever since.
It first was designed for THIS Barcelona pavillion (image below, and note: it is actually open for the general public to enjoy) that Mies himself actually designed as an architect as well, which is why it is now commonly referred to as the "Barcelona" chair.



It'll set you back a very pretty penny or two (about $7,000 for the 2 piece set to be more precise), but knock offs have since been replicated.

Either way, it's a beautiful piece..
Never before did I think I would enjoy history like I do now. (:

Lisman Studio

Hello friends!

So school has been AMAZING. Intense, very intense, but totally amazing. I can tell this is going to be a good and VERY VERY busy semester.
First things first, I wanted to tell you about my Color Theory teacher, LaMar Lisman.
He is FANTASTIC.
He is a professional 24/7 and a professor 2 hours a week, just for us. (: And I can tell you already I am grateful he's there to teach us.
I've already learned about Tints & Shades of pure color (which means adding white or black to the truest form of the color will give you tints or shades OF that color), monochromatic & analogous color schemes, and so on.. I know this wonderful man has MANY more tricks and loads of information up his sleeve. (:
I can't wait.
School will be VERY taxing, however.. I am still in awe that the things we discuss are for the CLASS. Hello things I would LOVE to talk about even in my spare time! Love it.
